Vaginismus is a fairly common problem where a woman cannot have vaginal penetrative intercourse as it is extremely painful to her.
A lot of people believe it to be psychological but there are enough studies to show that it is not so and there is a increased tone in the vaginal muscles which leads to Vaginismus.
If counseling, fingering, and dilatation have not worked, it is called Refractory Vaginismus. It can be treated beautifully by botulinum toxin injections. It is a day care procedure, which involves injections and dilation and short anaesthesia. There are no cuts and most women are able to have vaginal penetration within a month or two.
